Mr. Mukherjee's GIS Training

“I will be a teacher, I always dreamt in my school days” told Mr. Mukherjee at the training centre. After completing post graduation from Presidency College he joined Calcutta University for Phd. In the mean time he also appeared for WBCS Exam. and passed successfully. After successfully completion of training he was posted to a block of Dakshin Dinajpur as a B.D.O. and then transferred to Galsi-I of Burdwan district.

When the Decentralised Information Management Initiative started in his district he was asked to attend computer training on Geographic Information System along with other three BDOs to computer training centre in Kolkata on 14th February, 05.

 

After completing a light breakfast, they started training with the goal and objective of the Project. After a small break trainees entered into the first module. Trainers introduced them with the different computer hardware and their basic features. At the second half they were introduced with the main module, Geographic information System (GIS). They started with the census information of India and were taught to navigate the system. They were happy to easily get information on a simple mouse click over the maps. At the end of the first day the trainers introduced them with MS-PowerPoint. They could make a presentation using custom animation.

 

At the second day the training started with MS-Excel. They could easily solve a sum using simple formulas. They were also learnt to protect file with password. After lunch they were introduced with 5 copies of Block Map along with 5 copies of blank forms related to AWC, health, education etc in which they have to collect the data and returned to Riddhi. “We don’t think it is a tough job to collect the data. But the line departments won’t co-operate with us until an order will come from Panchayat office regarding the same.”

 

The third day training commenced with Internet. The trainers explained the basic objectives of Internet. They were learnt to browse different website using search engine. They were very happy to see their picture in the Internet while browsing the Website www.trendswestbengal.org. After a break trainees were introduced with the mailing service through Internet. Mr. Sudip Mukherjee left the training center with a new experience.
